Halloween Decorating Contest

There was a major shortage of entries in our Halloween Decorating Contest.  The final total was precisely  zero (0).  This left the judges somewhat confused as to what to do, which isn't exactly an unusual condition for them.  They decided to randomly wander around the neighborhood and see what they could find.  There were plenty of decorated houses to choose from. After lengthy deliberation and much soul searching, or at least of few moments of idle thought, the following categories and winners were decided upon.  The judges decisions are final and because there aren't any prizes, don't feel bad if we didn't pick your house.  Besides, you had your chance to submit your house and didn't, so there. We apologize if we got any of the addresses wrong, but it was dark.  So without any further ado, here are the winners:

Most lights in the backyard:  929 Conway St.

Most pumpkins and stuff in the front yard: 231 Maria Ave.

Best house with a big pumpkin on the side, done by nice little old lady: 509 Arcade St..

Best Halloween display that looked suspiciously like a Christmas display: 518 Forest St.

Most patriotic display: 1076 Suburban Ave.

Best interior display in a theater that has been closed for over 30 years: Mounds Theater, 1029 Hudson Road

Halloween at the Mounds Theater

The Nobles eXperimental interMedia Group presented a special Halloween program, "Music From the Dark Side", on Halloween evening at the Mounds Theater at 1029 Hudson Road.  The Metro State musical group, led by professor David Means, featured San Antonio-based composer-performer Johnny Rodriquez.  Also performing experimental vocal and instrumental music were Steve Carlino, Mary Garvie, M. Serdar Guvenc and students at Metro State's eXperimental Intermedia Program. The Mounds Theater was appropriately decorated for the event.
An undernourished visitor and his three cheerful,
but regrettably dead, friends.
Thespian Snoopy decided to go with a whimsical yet patriotic theme for his costume this year.

"Music From the Dark Side", presented by Metro State's Nobles eXperimental interMedia Group led by Professor David Means (standing in front of stage).  Note the orb clearly visible near the top of  the sheet/screen.  Are orbs really ghosts? Maybe, but probably not.

A big orb can be seeen near the upper center of this photo.  There are many more in the upper left that show up much better in the original photo.

Here is one massive orb right in front of David Means.  There are more in the upper left.

In case you want to see even more orbs, here they are. The stage is towards the right.  This photo was taken with a different camera than the three above.  It was also a digital rather than a film camera.
These streaks in the lobby aren't orbs.  They come from the disco ball on the ceiling. Sorry.

The less said about this tableau, the better.  But those are real, naturally white pumpkins.

The Mounds is an old theater that still has a lot of life in it, if you don't count the ghosts.
The light on the left is one of six original art deco style wall lights that has already been refurbished and will eventually be returned to the interior walls of the theater.
Great ghost but it's not an orb, just an image from a slide  projector.
